Canadian Auto Workers and Ford reach new contract

The Canada Ford and its 9,000 workers who are parts of the Canadian Auto Workers (CAW) union reached a hesitant 3 year labor agreement on Thursday.

The president of CAW Buzz Hargrove said the covered agreement all local and country issues and should simplicity the anxiety a lot of his members have been mood as the American economy slows and automobile sales sag.

Hargrove said “I’m absolutely thrilled” in an interview minutes after the arrangement was completed. In a report, Ford said being competitive in the lasting was “critical” to the business and in the great interest of its workers. It described the contract as “innovative.”

An approval vote for the proposed agreement is set for Sunday.

While full details of the contract were to be released at a combined news conference on morning Friday, the Canadian Auto Workers declared earlier this week that the proposed deal would solidify base wages over its duration.

The contract also called for assembly plant in Ford in St. Thomas, Ont., to stay in process until at least Sep 2011, when the deal would expire, instead of the earlier scheduled end in 2010.
